Sparrows exhibition
Hope church Crewe 2023
They all started out as landscapes inspired by the verse
“You brought me to a spacious place” Psalm 18 v 19
Things have changed after the pandemic and priorities are being rearranged. It feels like a spacious place where anything we dream could begin to form.
This made me draw large open skies like I see every day in Cheshire. But there was something missing and intimidating about these open spaces, a lack of definition and direction.
It was then I observed the sparrows. So small, soft and vulnerable, but they soared carefree through a massive sky. It was God’s beautiful way of showing me how to deal with this new open season.
The awe inspiring possibilities of our future is paired with the creator’s intimate care of our daily lives. And we can soar carefree in His tending.
Whenever I’m tempted to be overwhelmed by the responsibilities and possibilities of life, I look at the sparrows outside my living room window, or in these paintings and I find rest in God’s care. Joy in the sparrows’ security. Relief in their carefree provision.
This series has spanned many years of big changes in my life and have regularly returned as a symbol of care. I hope you know you are cared for.

Just like The Father looks after the sparrows, how much more our children. Children sleep in the security that their parents are keeping them safe. So can we.
Do you remember how it feels to have your parent’s arms carrying you. Their strength, and how special you felt. These are childhood moment’s that form us, and from them we grow and get to know our Father in the sky.
